Our training will provide an infusion of time-tested techniques for modern earthen architecture, a profession born of the natural building movement established in the 1980’s. Commonly available building materials were (and many remain) clearly toxic and highly energy intensive to produce. Desiring healthier alternatives, and recognizing alternative, non-toxic materials that nature provides in abundance, the natural building movement has been gaining ground over the last three decades. Through design that incorporates the natural patterns for seasonal comfort, experimentation using a variety of natural and recycled materials, and borrowing from vernacular wisdom, this movement has produced innovative methods of creating homes that actually nurture us.
